The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has now given the latest update as to the top scorer standing in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
On their official social media platforms, the African football governing body released a list of the players with a chance to win the award.
Along with the post was a message that said, “Prolific scorers everywhere 🎯
“Who ends up with the most #TotalEnergiesAFCONQ2023 goals? “
Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen leads the list with seven goals and is two ahead of Senegal and Al Nassr star Sadio Mane with five goals.
Osimhen scored one goal against Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
He then scored two more against Sierra Leone at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia, Liberia.
He did not score in the home and away fixtures against Guinea Bissau, and his four strikes against Sao Tome and Principe at the Adrar Stadium in Morocco are crucial to him maintaining the top spot.
When the Super Eagles host Group A whipping boys Sao Tome and Principe in the return leg on Sunday, September 10, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo Osimhen is expected to increase his tally and claim the AFCON qualifiers' top scorer award.
