Quincy Promes sentenced to 18 months in prison for assaulting his cousin.
Quincy Promes, a former Ajax winger, has been given an 18-month prison term for hitting his cousin.
During a family gathering in Australia in July 2020, the 31-year-old, who currently represents Spartak Moscow, stabbed the victim in the knee.
A Dutch court found Promes guilty of aggravated assault, however, it is unknown if he will now depart for the Netherlands given that he is now in Russia.
A compensation payment of €7,000 (£5970) has also been mandated for the victim.
Promes, who previously played for Sevilla in Spain, has 50 caps for the Netherlands' national team.
Promes and drug trafficking
Promes' phone was tapped as part of an investigation into drug trafficking, which led to the discovery of the assault.
The Dutch football player Promes is also accused of smuggling cocaine worth a staggering £65 million.
The forward, who presently wears the Spartak Moscow uniform, has previously been linked to Liverpool.
