Super Eagles start World Cup qualifiers with Lesotho and Zimbabwe draws
After failing to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Nigerian football fans were optimistic about the Super Eagles' chances for the next edition.
To start their qualification campaign, the Super Eagles had to come from behind to get a draw against the Crocodiles of Lesotho.
In their second group game, the Super Eagles also had to come from behind to get a draw away against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.
The result in their first two qualifiers has a significant impact on their chances to advance from the group.
Moses Simon apologizes to Nigerians
In the absence of Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon came on as a substitute against Lesotho to take the Captain's armband.
He also captained the team from start to finish against Zimbabwe.
After the disappointing results, Simon took to social media to apologize to Nigerian football fans.
He said, "Not the result we wanted but we will surely bounce back.
"Big apologies to our fans, you deserve better than the performance against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
"We have overcome so many challenges in the past. And now is the time to reflect and come back stronger🇳🇬🦅"
The Super Eagles will now converge later in December as they prepare for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
