David Barlow, one of the three victims from the tragic attack on tourist in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park has been described as a ‘massive cricket person’ by peers as details about his life emerge.

Barlow, 50, his wife Celia, 51, and their guide, 40-year-old Ugandan Eric Alyai, were ambushed and killed by insurgents believed to be Allied Democratic Force (ADF).

The two love-birds were enjoying their honeymoon in Western Uganda following their wedding in South Africa’s Western Cape last week.

The incident took place when the assailant group hailed bullets at their truck before setting the truck ablaze before fleeing the scene.

The heart-wrenching news has shattered many, considering the couple was recently married in South Africa's Western Cape and were on their honeymoon.

David's roots trace back to Hampstead Norreys parish council in Berkshire, where he was raised.

He was part of the esteemed Barlow family that has managed a wood yard in the region since 1867.

In their heartfelt tribute, his hometown cricket club, Hampstead Norreys Cricket Club where he has been a member and also a prospective chairman, he was described ‘as a central figure of the Hampstead Norreys Cricket Club’.

Barlow’s association with the sport was profound, often seen sharing jokes, playing, and capturing wickets with his renowned slow action.

His presence was a treat for many who had the privilege of playing alongside him.

Paying tribute, Oliver Laurence, the club secretary of, expressed his profound sorrow. "We have learned this morning of the tragic deaths of Dave and Celia Barlow.”

"Dave has been a constant around the Hampstead Norreys Cricket Club for many, many years.”

“Among the many of us who had the privilege to share a joke with him, play cricket with him, and watch as he took wicket after wicket with his famously slow action was a treat.”

“Lord Barlow as we fondly know him by will be with us forever. The entire club's thoughts and prayers are with Dave and Celia's families right now." He reminisced.

"I was so excited at the future of HNCC with Dave by my side as our Chairman. I will, we will, take a moment before moving forward.”

“But, I know deep down Dave would want us to thrive, and we will in time honour him in the right way, and at the right time move forward as he would want."

In the aftermath of this devastating incident, Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni expressed that the Ugandan High Commission in the UK would extend support to the bereaved families.

As investigations continue, the police suspect the involvement of the ADF rebel group which primarily operates in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The attack took place in Queen Elizabeth National Park, known for its natural beauty and wildlife

The attack was near Uganda's border with DRC, and the Islamic State is reported to have claimed responsibility for it.

Uganda Police spokesperson Fred Enanga voiced his condolences, stating: "We have registered a cowardly terrorist attack on two foreign tourists and a Ugandan in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The three were killed, and their safari vehicle burnt."

The photograph of the burned green four-wheel-drive vehicle was shared by the police force, amplifying the brutal nature of the attack.
