In a bout that lasted four minutes and 13 seconds, Uganda’s Mixed Martial Artist David Onama pocketed Shs184m ($50,000).
Onama is making waves in the Ultimate Fighting Championship after he easily knocked out Brazilian Gabriel Santos in the featherweight division at the VyStar Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday, June 24.
USA Today said the fight night had performance bonuses capped at $50,000 (about Shs184m), and Uganda’s Onama smiled at the bank.
UFC also awarded the brutal knockout as the ‘Fight of the Night’.
The Ugandan fighter based in the US will be hopeful for bigger paydays after he recently secured a four-fight deal with the UFC.
He floored Santos to the canvas as the referee stopped the fight at four minutes and 13 seconds before 14,101 spectators.
Onama channelled Nigeria’s Israel Adesanya’s famous arrow celebration. Adesanya triumphed over Alex Pereira, also a Brazilian, for the Middleweight title.
