Making history as the first-ever Indian player to lift a Women’s Singles winner’s trophy on the WTT Series, She celebrates a new career-best ranking in Week 26.
According to the latest rankings released by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), Sreeja Akula has become India’s highest-ranked player in the Women’s Singles.
Akula claimed the 2024 WTT Contender Lagos singles title; she emerged victorious with a 4-1 win (10-12, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6).
The win was a double chapter added to her growing legacy, as she also won the Women’s Doubles at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium.

The governor celebrated a special occasion on the tournament’s last day, showcasing exciting table tennis matches where champions were determined in Women's Singles, Men's Singles, Women's Doubles, and Men's Doubles events at WTT Contender Lagos 2024.
Adding to the two WTT Feeder Series titles she won earlier this season, Akula now holds the honor of being India’s highest-ranked player in the Women’s Singles standings, rising 19 spots to World No.24, leapfrogging Manika Batra.
"I love Lagos and the atmosphere is very conducive, This is my first Contender title, I am very happy to win it here in Lagos. Lagos has been really special for me. I’m just looking forward for my next tournament.

Drama, fun as German, Indians rule WTT Lagos
The tournament’s last day showcased exciting table tennis matches where champions were determined in Women's Singles, Men's Singles, Women's Doubles, and Men's Doubles events at the WTT Contender Lagos 2024.
"It has been a very good tournament for Indians here. Table tennis has been going well in India in the last few years and we hope to do well in the upcoming Paris Olympic Games as well," she said.
Akula will lead the Indian team at the WTT Contender in Tunis, which starts on June 25th and runs until the 30th.
