Nothing less than 150 players from 25 countries are in Lagos for the World Table Tennis Contender Championship (WTT Contender) Lagos.

The vice president of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Africa, Wahid Enitan Oshodi, claimed that the WTT Contender Championship would be utilized to rank players and provide a venue for Nigerian players to accumulate the points necessary to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The former Lagos State table tennis boss expressed his happiness that Nigeria was chosen to host the world championship, adding that more Nigerian players now have the chance to sign up and compete in the competition to get significant experience.

Nigerians set to make history as World Table Tennis Contender in Lagos
The Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium will host the WTT Contender, which is slated for June 12–18.
He said, “Over 50 players will participate in the WTT Contender Championship, which is in the ITTF calendar. The best Table Tennis players, male and female, across the globe will be in Lagos to participate in the WTT Contender event.
“Aruna Quadri, one of Nigeria’s best table tennis players, will not be taking part in the championship. But I believe this would pave the way for more upcoming stars in the country to emerge.
“About $75,000 worth of cash prizes have been earmarked for outstanding players, including Nigerians based at home and abroad, at the tournament."

The Nigerian will not be participating at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender in Lagos.
Pulse Sports reported that African giants, Quadri Aruna and Omar Assar will not be in Lagos for the championship, Aruna withdrew due to club engagement while Assar was not listed.
Nigerian rising star, Taiwo Mati will be leading team Nigeria alongside Olajide Omotayo in the men's category.
