Weeks after winning the International Tennis Federation (ITF) W15 Monastir singles title, Angella Okutoyi has stamped authority one more time by clinching the Kenya Open singles title in a thrilling showdown at the Nairobi Club on Saturday, August 12.
Going up against Tanzania’s Shana Mao, Okutoyi put up a good fight to take the first set 6-1. She continued the hot streak in the second set and won 6-0 to successfully defend her women’s single title.

She has gone unbeaten since the tournament started with the Round of 16 on Tuesday. She opened her campaign with a domineering 6-0, 6-0 victory over Emaan Amin to progress to the quarter-finals.
In the quarter-finals, the top seed was up against Stacy Yego on Thursday whom she also thrashed in straight sets to proceed to the semifinal. She was also in a class of her own in the semifinal where she displayed her skill by countering Alicia Owegi’s aggressive serves, to triumph with a score of 6-2 and 6-0.
In the women’s doubles, Okutoyi teamed up with her twin sister Roselida Asumwa to also reign supreme. The Kenyan duo beat the Tanzanian duo of Shana Mao and Ester Nankulange 6-1 and 6-0.
The tournament, which is set to conclude on Saturday, was making its return to the country after a four-year hiatus.
