The oldest National Tournament in Nigeria was postponed over Naira Scarcity
The organizers of the annual junior edition of the Central Bank Tennis (CBN) tournament have announced the postponement of the championship.
Recall that Pulse Sports reports that the CBN Junior Tennis Tournament was scheduled to serve off on February 6.
Junior tennis was postponed over the current naira scarcity in Nigeria.
Coaches don't have cash to travel - Organizers
The organizers and the director of the International Tennis Academy (ITA), Godwin Kienka, stated that coaches don’t have the cash to travel.
The renowned tennis administrator said that they are ready to host the competition, but they need things to stabilize in the country before the competition begins.
“We’re actually ready, but we need everything to stabilize before we go ahead with the tournament. Some of these coaches are unable to move around due to the cash issues in the country,” he told Tennis live
CBN Junior Open is the oldest National Tennis champion in Nigeria
The tournament, which currently attracts over 200 tennis players nationwide and started in 1978, is the oldest national tournament in Nigeria, and it is sponsored by the CBN.
It is a week-long tournament with competition available in different categories such as men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, wheelchair men’s singles, and wheelchair women’s singles.
The Championship has in fact become a selection ground for the country in preparation for major competitions such as Davis Cup, All Africa Games, etc.
