Reigning champions Pipeline beat DCI over the weekend.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) coach Daniel Bor has highlighted poor blocking tactics as the major undoing in their 3-1 loss to defending champions Kenya Pipeline Company in the Kenya Volleyball Federation women's league.
In the highly contested match, Kenya Pipeline took the lead winning by a five-point buffer against opponents DCI (25-20) in the first set. DCI then fought brilliantly to secure a 25-23 win in the second set.
The third and fourth sets saw the Oilers scoop big wins (25-17 and 25-15).
In their opening match on Saturday 25 February, DCI were off to a perfect start that saw them get a deserved 3-0 win over Nairobi Water in straight sets of 25-21, 25-18, and 24-17.
Bor however noted that as far as the game was concerned, the players did well despite not achieving their goal of grabbing a victory.
"The defending champions had an advantage over us but I'm noting an improvement from our side. We need to address our blocks and attacks going forward. That is what cost us a win," he said.
Bor noted that the second set worked in their favour because they had good coordination. He added that their defense was not badly off in the set.
The team had been training indoors for two days in preparation for the league and Bor lauded them for their good show against the champions.
"Winning a set from the defending champions is not something easy," he concluded.
