Facilities continue to be a significant challenge in Uganda, and any other facility that can take pressure off the few existing ones is a step in the right direction.

Kampala Capital City Authority has committed UGX 100m to upgrade the volleyball facility that accommodates KCCA teams in Naguru.

City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago revealed this on Thursday during his interaction with the KCCA Ladies Volleyball team that won the National Volleyball League.

The champions had a trophy parade from MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, before receiving a guard of honour from the entire staff at City Hall.

After that, the team presented the two trophies won in the 2022/23 season, the league and the Nkumba Open, to the Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka and the Lord Mayor.

Lukwago, who is the Patron of all KCCA Sports entities, could not hide his excitement as he welcomed yet another piece of silverware at City Hall.

KCCA defeated Sport-S Volleyball Club 2-1 to win the 2022/23 crown on 7th May 2023.

Since shifting base from the National Council of Sports premises after the Covid-19 lockdown, both KCCA teams have been training at Naguru Katale Primary School, one of the KCCA schools in the city.

“As the Authority, we have earmarked 100m to upgrade the Naguru Katale Primary School facility to a standard that befits Champions”. Lukwago said.

Facilities continue to be a significant challenge in Uganda, and any other facility that can take pressure off the few existing ones is a step in the right direction.

The facility is expected to be upgraded to a level of hosting top-level games and tournaments.

In the same vein, Lukwago also rewarded the ladies’ team with UGX 10M as a token of appreciation for raising the KCCA brand.

Shilla Omuriwe’s charges won the league title for the first time in seventeen years.

“We appreciate the efforts put in, and we promise to continue supporting you regardless of the results; we have also given you this money to appreciate your efforts”. Lukwago noted.

KCCA ladies earned the ticket to represent Uganda at the 2024 Women’s Africa Club Championship by winning the league.
