The victory for KCCA means that Omuriwe has finally kicked the finals door open, having fallen at the semi-final stage last season at the hands of Ndejje.
KCCA Ladies completed their journey to the National Volleyball League finals after defeating Ndejje Elites 3-1 in the decisive Game Three at the Old Kampala Arena Sunday evening.
Shilla Omuriwe’s charges won the series 2-1 after coming from a game down and will now face Sport-S in a three-game finals series.
It was a complete performance by the Kasasiro Girls but also a game that exposed Ndejje’s limited options on offence.
KCCA got out of the blocks early and took the first set 25-22 to set the pace, with captain Eunice Amuron and Joan Joan Tushemereirwe doing most of the damage early in the game.
Ndejje bounced back in the second frame, Catherine Ainembabazi carrying most of the scoring burden.
The university side edged a tightly-contested set to level matters but never got into second gear from there on.
Errors from the service box, coupled with KCCA’s brilliant defence on the net and in the backcourt, left Ndejje exposed.
Setter Jojo Muindi and centre blocker Zaina Kagoya did well in stopping Ndejje’s threat on offence, while Tushemereirwe kept scoring as KCCA cruised through the last two sets to seal the deal.
Outside Ainembabazi, Ndejje struggled for offence and paid the price.
Claire Najjuko and Shadia Wanyenze both had a run-out but failed to impress when the stakes were high.
Team captain Belinda Jepkirui also found the going tough against a KCCA net defence that has been the difference in the last two games of the series.
The victory for KCCA means that Omuriwe has finally kicked the finals door open, having fallen at the semi-final stage last season at the hands of Ndejje.
Ndejje’s defeat means that all four teams from last season’s finals are out of contention this time around.
Ndejje defeated VVC in the women’s division last season, while OBB beat Nemostars in the men’s competition.
