KCCA Ladies ended their 17-year thirst for the National Volleyball League title following a 2-0 sweep of Sport-S in the finals.

Shilla Omuriwe’s charges came from a set down to a 3-1 win and completed the sweep Sunday evening at the Old Kampala Arena.

As was the case in Game One, Sport-S started on the front foot and asked tough questions in attack.

Sport-S took the closely contested first set 25-23 to set the pace in a game they had to win to force a decider.

KCCA, however, recovered when Joan Tushemereirwe and Supernatural Mbakisimira got going on offence.

Malic Damulira’s side struggled to hold onto leads in the game and gave away a four-point advantage in the third set to hand KCCA the opportunity.

And once the Kasasiro Girls had their noses in after taking the third frame 25-23, Sport-S were in serious trouble.

An excellent first pass eluded the Nsambya-based side to start the fourth set.

A late fightback could not change the fortunes as KCCA held on to take the set, win the game 3-1 and the series 2-0.

Sport-S, who finished the regular season as the top seed, will have to wait another season for a first-ever championship.

And for KCCA, the celebrations started immediately after finally landing the piece of silverware that had eluded them for 17 years.
