Mbarara Youths Volleyball Club will be the host team of the two-day tournament slated for September 2nd and 3rd.

Uganda Volleyball Federation has confirmed Mbarara City as the host for this year’s National Club Championship.

The confirmation came on Sunday through the federations’ social media platforms.

“National Club Championship 2023 is going to be held in Mbarara City,” UVF said in a short statement.

Mbarara Youths Volleyball Club will be the host team of the two-day tournament slated for September 2nd and 3rd.

UVF has maintained the habit of rotating the competition throughout the country as a way of spreading the game beyond the central region.

The tournament returns to Western Uganda for the second time in three years, having been held in Kabale in 2021. Iganga hosted the last championship.

The Club Championship is the second biggest competition on the UVF calendar and acts as a qualifier for teams representing Uganda at the Africa Club Championship.

Sport-S have won the last two Club Championships and will be looking to make it three in a row when the tournament comes around in September.

In the ladies’ category, defending champions OBB will have to retain the trophy without the services of the senior players who won it for them last year.

Moreen Mwamula, Faith Magole and Jesca Kaidu have since returned to Ndejje Elites to leave the Iganga-based side depleted.

National Volleyball League champions KCCA Ladies missed the championship last year but have already started preparations for this year’s tournament.

Shilla Omuriwe’s charges tasted success in the league and will be hungrier to go for more in the two-day event.
