Ndejje and Sport-S will be fighting to regain top spot after being leapfrogged by KCCA over the weekend.
Ndejje Elites and Sport-S are the two teams setting the pace in the women’s National Volleyball League.
The two sides have between switching positions one and two on the log. Sport-S dominated the first round and was unbeaten until the seventh game where they were dismissed in straight sets by KCCA.
That left Ndejje top of the log until Malic Damulira’s side defeated the defending champions to back on top.
The two sides, however, will be fighting to regain top spot after being leapfrogged by KCCA over the weekend.
Shilla Omuriwe’s side subjected Ndejje to their second loss of the season to go top with 30 points from 13 games.
The Kasasiro Girls have played a game more than the two sides and will likely drop back to third by the time the regular season comes to an end.
Sport-S and Ndejje are tied on 29 points with two games to play but it is the Nsambya outfit with a better set ratio.
They have won 31 sets and lost 11 while Ndejje have 32 sets won and 13 dropped.
Ndejje will have the opportunity of going top when they face last year’s losing finalists VVC in one of the Women’s Day fixtures lined up.
VVC are a shadow of the team that lost 2-1 to Ndejje in last year’s finals and find themselves in the red zone with just three points from 11 games.
The experience of Maria Nanfuka and Becky Logose might pause a challenge but the Elites should have enough to get the victory.
But the nature of the victory will matter at this stage with any dropped set likely a dent in the race to top spot.
Catherine Ainembabazi remains the main source of offence for Ndejje and yet still charged with reception duties.
The Elites have struggled to find points every time she is in the back court.
Meanwhile Sport-S have to deal with KCB-Nkumba. Tony Lakony’s side have 18 points from 11 games and are, mathematically, still in the race for fourth place.
They are seven points behind OBB and would require perfect results in the remaining fixtures to dislodge the National Club Championship winners.
