Nigeria U-21 Girls arrives Niamey for African Zone 3 Volleyball Championship

The CAVB U21 Girls Zone 3 Nations Cup is slated for July 3–10, 2023.

Nigeria’s U-21 Girls team has arrived in Niamey, Niger Republic, ahead of the 2023 Africa U-21 Girls Zone 3 Nations Championship.

On Sunday morning, the players and their coaches left Kaduna's Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

Twelve players make up the delegation, along with head coach Rakiya Mohammed, two assistant coaches (Dennis Eleri and Anthony Torbundeh), and a referee (Manir Hassan).

The Technical Director of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Martins Melandi, said they have been in camp for three weeks preparing for the championship.

He said that Nigerians should not settle for anything less than the young athletes who are headed to the World Championship.

“We have been in camp in preparation and played some friendly matches. From what I saw, the team is technically sound. They will compete with all countries in West Africa.

On her part, the head coach, Rakiya Mohammed, said that the girls have been drilled and are ready to deliver.

“We are departing today. From what you are seeing from the girls, you know their spirit is high. The President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod, has ensured all the welfare of the players.

“These girls you are seeing, they are not actually U-21 but U-19 because their championship is coming up in Croatia, so we are using this to further prepare them,” she said
