Nemostars were handed great volleyball lessons by Rwanda’s APR, who kicked them out of CAVB Zone V Club Championship, at Lugogo on Sunday.
Nemostars have bowed out of the CAVB Zone V Club Championship following a straight sets loss to APR of Rwanda at Lugogo on Sunday.
The Ugandan side could not match the Rwandan giants, who beat them 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-15), although the home side will perhaps be encouraged by their gallant performance in the opening two sets.
Reception proved to be the Achilles heel for the Ugandan side yet again as they were not able to set up their attacks that normally go through captain George Aporu, Esau Ecil and Ivan Ongom.
Setter Smith Okumu cut a frustrated figure as he did not get any service from libero Brian Musinguzi during the contest where Nemo failed to throw a punch that would hurt the Rwandans.
Nemo looked like they could make the first set competitive but it would go one way once APR got a firm grip on proceedings.
The second set went the same way before the visitors tightened their grip on the tie with a 10-point win in the final one.
It was a wakeup call for Nemo, who are preparing to represent Uganda at the African Club Championships next month, as they will need great preparations if they have to avoid an embarrassment at the continental tournament.
In another match, Rwanda Police got a walkover South Sudanese side COBRA while fans are anticipating a tight all-Ugandan quarter-final between Sport-S and KAVC but it went one way as the latter won 3-0 (22-25, 21-25, 22-25).
