KCCA started Women’s Day as the team on top with 30 points but had been dislodged by Sport-S by end of the celebrations.
The puzzle for who tops the table at the end of the women’s National Volleyball League at the end of the regular season will have to be solved on the finals matchday.
This is because all the three sides in the race for top spot still have a chance after 13 games of the regular season.
KCCA started Women’s Day as the team on top with 30 points but had been dislodged by Sport-S by end of the celebrations.
In fact, Ndejje Elites were top of the table after their hard-fought 3-2 win over VVC but were also sent back to second place the moment Sport-S beat KCB-Nkumba in straight sets.
Malic Damulira’s troops moved to 32 point and are a point better off compared to defending champions Ndejje, who squandered the opportunity by giving away a point against relegation threatened VVC.
Ndejje are on 31 points, must now have destiny out of their hands going into the final regular season fixture.
Victory alone will not be enough to see them ascend to the top of the log.
Sport-S’ 3-0 victory on Wednesday also ruled Nkumba out of the playoffs and confirmed OBB as the side that will occupy the fourth position, regardless of results from the last games.
OBB are 25 points, seven points ahead of Tony Lakony’s Nkumba with six points available to play for.
The point picked by VVC off Ndejje was only their fourth of the season and the side remain in the red zone waiting to drop to Serie B.
Espoir are bottom of the eight-team log with a mere two points and will have two more games to conclude their misery and drop to the lower division.
Who plays who?
With the playoffs starting at the semi-final stage, the top seed after the regular season plays number four on the log.
That would mean Sport-S facing OBB in a repeat of the National Club Championship final that was edged by the newly promoted side in Iganga last September.
Another encounter between Ndejje and KCCA will give Shilla Omuriwe’s charges a chance to avenge last season’s semi-final collapse that sent the eventual champions to the final.
But if VVC’s fight against Ndejje is anything to go by, there could be a few more twists and turns before confirming the playoffs encounters.
