Wafalme readies for the African volleyball showpiece with a skilled roster.
The Kenya national men's volleyball team, Wafalme is gearing up for the highly anticipated 2023 CAVB Africa Men's Nations Cup scheduled to be held in Cairo, Egypt from September 1st to 14th.
The team's 16-player roster has been meticulously selected after intense scrutiny, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive tournament.
Under the adept guidance of head coach Gideon Tarus, assisted by coaches David Lung'aho, Sammy Mulinge, Elisha Aliwa, and Sammy Kirongo, along with the strategic management of team manager Alfred Chedotum, the technical bench faced the daunting task of narrowing down an initial pool of 20 players.
The ultimate decision-making process concluded after a rigorous training session on Monday 21 August.
Dennis Esokon, the left attacker from Kenya Prisons, as well as the middle blockers Joshua Kimaru from GSU and Brian Kamonde from Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), have successfully retained their spots in the roster.
However, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) setters Nick Kimutai and Timothy Kipruto from Kenya Prisons have been dropped from the squad.
The selection process does not end here, as the coaching staff will subsequently face the challenge of further whittlin down the roster to 14 players who will proudly represent Kenya on the grand stage of the CAVB Africa Men's Nations Cup.
The previous championship, hosted by Rwanda in August 2021, witnessed Tunisia emerging as champions after a thrilling final match against Cameroon.
This time, with a blend of seasoned players and promising young talents, Wafalme Stars are all set for an exhilarating journey as they strive to etch their mark on the continental volleyball arena.
In another exciting development for the Kenyan volleyball community, the nation is poised to host the Zone Five Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) men and women's clubs championship.
Scheduled to take place from November 25th to December 10th, the event will be held at the Moi International Sports Centre's Kasarani indoor arena in Nairobi.
Teams from across the zone, including Rwanda, Uganda, Egypt, Sudan, South Sudan, Burundi, Tanzania, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and host country Kenya, will converge for this championship.
The event promises a riveting showcase of talent, as the victors from the National Leagues within the zone vie for supremacy.
