The course has also attracted eight aspiring coaches from Kenya and five from Rwanda, with Uganda having the biggest chunk, 29.

Teams in different divisions of Ugandan Volleyball, especially those in Serie A have been informed they will require internationally certified coaches on the touchline in the coming National Volleyball League season.

And as such, many have embraced the ongoing International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Level One Coaching Course that started Monday morning at GNS Hotel in Old Kampala.

The course focuses on teaching the students basics of volleyball, the role of a coach and how they should behave while executing their roles.

Several players and coaches have taken up the course, with up to 42 participants part of the intense five-day program.

The course has also attracted eight aspiring coaches from Kenya and five from Rwanda, with Uganda having the biggest chunk, 29.

“Level One Coaching Course is the standard we are going to set for our clubs in Serie A for both men and women next season,” Uganda Volleyball Federation Technical Director Tonny Lakony told Pulse Sports.

“That is the only way we shall improve our level of play,” he added.

Top-flight coaches like Sport-S’ Malic Damulira, who guided his side to the finals last season, are part of the course.

Players like Ndejje Sharks’ Emma Kato and Nemostars’ middle blocker Fahad Zungu are also attending.

From theory to practical lessons, the participants will be subjected to an exam that they must pass to get certified by FIVB.

FIVB Instructor Kalny Matus from Slovakia is the man administering the course.

It is the second time Uganda is hosting a Coaching Course this year, having hosted the Beach Volleyball Coaching Course in May.
